Just writing to say that was an invaluable post Mike. You inspired me to write again and try to be better. But you set the bar very high! :)

Please keep writing- your style is just plain awesome.

@Rick: I generally have the same problem. I find some people who blog have original sources and those can be hard to come by. We should set up an interview and generate our own original content! ;-)

@Brett: Glad you're headed in the right direction. There's still no "must" in the blogosphere so really, you just have to go for it.

@Bonnie: That's a good idea to add a thematic element to an opinion. That sounds like one of those unspoken "social contracts" between you and your audience.

My style is snarky and smart-ass.

It's hard to find a topic that a hundred others haven't written about. So, I try to inject my posts with my opinion on PR, social media and pop culture. The chances of people reading my blog to find out about new concepts or products are slim to none. All I try to do is present a different take on an issue and start a conversation.

Really good post!

I totally agree with you. I try like in any good conversation to switch the topics. I scatter a few best practise pieces, with a few subversive looks at communications.

One of the other things I try to do is keep new delicious posts updated. This way there's a common talking point should anyone be so inclined.

I'm still figuring out but compared to my first day as a blogger to where I am now I like progress.

Absolutely!

I generally write about my thoughts on a subject. Because I'm not actually breaking news, and I rarely provide original primary content (like product reviews) I choose to discuss others' content and hopefully give it a new angle.

At the very least, I hope to generate a conversation thread about the subject.

I agree with you,Mike. This preference on how to be contacted exists in work situations too. It's strange how quickly we learn about one's preferred method on how to be communicated with. Some people like to be contacted by picking up the phone and being spoken to, some like to be talked with over the cubicle walls, some prefer the formal paper trail that an e- mail brings and some like to see the person and converse face to face. The behaviour of letting someone know what the preferred method is, is very subtle. No direct conversations or hints.Just a gentle push in the right direction. And how promptly our brain registers the association with the person. Good enough to never make the same mistake twice.

A couple weeks ago on Jon Stewart they had featured "Special Olympics Coverage" and he joked about how there should probably be a comma somewhere.

I loved the film and was totally mesmerized by Ledger's performance. I don't buy a lot of movies on DVD but I plan on getting this when it comes out.

Great piece!

Agreed that the emphasis is on society vs. chaos-- Joker even says he's an "agent of chaos" yes? (One of my friends swore it as "angel of chaos" but I think that they misheard.)

Ledger was amazing- savage and strange. But I thought this film was solidly cast down to the cameos. I think Aaron Eckhardt was amazing given his character's arc and I also found Gary Oldman really effective- he's an actor with a tendency towards the flamboyant so his masterful underplaying here seemed especially powerful.

Having read a few pieces about Nolan and the making of the movie, 9/11 and the way it changed everything did have an impact on the film.

But the best quote I have heard in relation to the film comes from Sir Michael Caine. To paraphrase: "Superman is how America sees itself- Batman is how the rest of the world sees America." Factor that in and it gets even more interesting.
