Bookmarks were great for everyone until the inevitable happened; the price of computers went down, every student got a laptop and before you knew it your day consisted of working on one, two and maybe even three computers. It’s a real hardship for tech junkies, I know.
I looked around a while for solutions to this problem. I would find a site I liked, I would bookmark it and frustration ensued when I was surfing on my other computer. Finally, through course work I learned about del.icio.us, a social bookmarking website that just made sense. Not only does this online tool allow you to see your bookmarks anywhere, but you can share your bookmarks with your friends and see what they are bookmarking. You can also use the site with RSS feeds, but more on RSS in another article.
It’s easy to get started on del.icio.us with Firefox and a great del.icio.us extension. Once you have both set up and ready to go, along with a del.icio.us account, you’re set and bookmarking is practically as easy as your old bookmarking short cut, Ctrl+D.
Now, you can slowly build a database of bookmarks available anywhere you go. So go ahead, and take those first steps to making your first Internet super forum.
Thanks for the tip, Michael. I have bookmarked many sites over the years and, often, never return to them. So, they just sit there until I decide to purge them.
